Listeria monocytogenes dissemination in farming and primary production: Sources, shedding and control measures

چکیده
Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) is a well-known pathogenic bacterium that causes the disease listeriosis in both humans and animals. Human transmission mainly occurs via ingestion of contaminated foods specifically affects pregnant women, newborns, elderly individuals immunosuppressed individuals. Several outbreaks have been historically associated with consumption fresh raw milk unpasteurized cheese, highlighting role good farm hygiene measures to reduce probability contamination. L ubiquitous environment, therefore, this commonly found silage, haylage, grazing pastures, crop fields, farmyards even water. Faeces wild animals, including gulls rooks, also described as important vectors pathogen for animal contamination, well bedding, soils or feed bunk tanks, especially when animals are housed during indoor months. Milking lines, filters, collectors, bulk tanks other utensils room, sites bacterial detection. The ability L. produce biofilms survive humid environments makes elimination difficult increases its persistence equipment on floors, leading high risk contamination at harvest farms. This review explores depth different sources production farms, special focus ruminants, identifying analysing applicable control each stage.

متن کاملDissemination of Listeria monocytogenes by infected phagocytes.
In vitro data suggest that blood-borne Listeria monocytogenes organisms enter the central nervous system (CNS) by direct invasion of endothelial cells or by cell-to-cell spread from infected phagocytes to endothelial cells. However, a role for infected phagocytes in neuroinvasion and dissemination of L. monocytogenes in vivo has not been confirmed experimentally. Experiments described here test...
متن کاملThe cost and benefit of Listeria monocytogenes food safety measures.
The objectives of this study were to evaluate economic techniques used to determine the cost and benefit of Listeria monocytogenes control and to estimate the economic optimum of L. monocytogenes food safety measures. The level of food safety measures is optimal if marginal benefit and marginal cost equate. Estimates of benefit and cost of L. monocytogenes food safety measures, from available p...
متن کاملActin network disassembly powers dissemination of Listeria monocytogenes.
Several bacterial pathogens hijack the actin assembly machinery and display intracellular motility in the cytosol of infected cells. At the cell cortex, intracellular motility leads to bacterial dissemination through formation of plasma membrane protrusions that resolve into vacuoles in adjacent cells. Here, we uncover a crucial role for actin network disassembly in dissemination of Listeria mo...
متن کاملFaecal shedding and strain diversity of Listeria monocytogenes in healthy ruminants and swine in Northern Spain
BACKGROUND Listeria monocytogenes is among the most important foodborne bacterial pathogens due to the high mortality rate and severity of the infection. L. monocytogenes is a ubiquitous organism occasionally present in the intestinal tract of various animal species and faecal shedding by asymptomatically infected livestock poses a risk for contamination of farm environments and raw food at the...
